Born in Česká Lipa in the Czech Republic in 1961, Luboš Plný developed a passion for drawing and anatomy from childhood, fascinated by animal dissection but also the decomposition of bodies, which even led him to do a course in grave-digging and immerse himself in medical literature when he was sent to a psychiatric hospital during his military service.

His drawings appear like collections of anatomical studies resulting from all these experiences. They are done in Indian ink, from diverse organic matter – hair, fur, blood, bits of skin, teeth - and cuttings from an atlas, newspapers or books on anatomy. For a signature they bear a stamp, 'Luboš Plný, Academic Model', - in reference to his job as an artist's model that he has had at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague since 1989 – as well as the date and the time that they were started and finished.

Constantly seeking to accurately analyse everything which could affect his state, Luboš Plný – now considered a major figure in Art Brut – strives to demonstrate the power of art in this fight against psychological illness.

The work of Luboš Plný is represented in public collections, notably in the Lille Métropole Musée d'Art moderne, d'Art contemporain et d'Art brut (LaM) which is in Villeneuve d'Ascq, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
